 OUR MARKET The uniqueness of Durango, Bayfield and the surrounding areas is its mountain setting, four distinct seasons, abundance of recreational activities, and quality of life residents enjoy. Best described as a perfect example of a small, cosmopolitan, Colorado mountain town, those who live here enjoy city amenities mixed with small town pleasures. Because of its attractiveness, many people have chosen to move here for their permanent home; many others have chosen it for retirement, or their second or third vacation home. Until 2008, the real estate market reflected a long term trend of continued increase in values since the early 1990s. In 2011 we see that the modest decline in values experienced over the last three years has ended in many segments of the market and once again prices are starting to rise; albeit, it more slowly than in the past.
